About Us

Picture
Dining Dickie was inspired by my mom, Bernadette. She always took great pride in her personal appearance, taking time to get her hair and makeup just right and making sure her clothing was always spotless. She had a tremor that made eating quite a challenge.
I wanted to make something to protect her outfit, but also to look beautiful and stylish while doing it. It had to be something she could put on and take off herself, without the help of family or staff. It is also had to be easy for her to carry with her and conveniently folded. We went through many prototypes - many like what you see on the market today. But we discovered a few special features that made this the very best bib alternative - It is long enough to catch spills on the lap, it has a collar and little pocket to look like a blouse, it is reversible to go with multiple outfits or to be used more than once, quality velcro is easy to manage, and fabrics are machine washable, resist fading, and won't shrink.

When she went into assisted living, Bernadette was constantly complimented on her Dining Dickies in the dining hall and at restaurants. She was the inspiration for the designs and enjoyed sharing them with other residents and friends and now I am happy to share them with you!

Our History

JaneMarie Designs, founded in 2000 in Roseville, MN. The first several Dining Dickies were created for Jane's mother, Bernadette, as a fun and dignified way to dine without worrying about spilling caused by her worsening tremor. Other friends and family loved them and a collection was designed to share them with more people.
